Pain .. Real Pain , Chronic Pain, Perceived Pain, and The Invisible Pain

Definition of Pain: An unpleasant sensation that can range from mild, localized discomfort to agony. Pain has both physical and emotional components. The physical part of pain results from nerve stimulation. Pain may be contained to a discrete area, as in an injury, or it can be more diffuse, as in disorders like fibromyalgia. Pain is mediated by specific nerve fibers that carry the pain impulses to the brain where their conscious appreciation may be modified by many factors._________________________

The Term “Pain Science” has so many in my Profession going crazy trying to say what pain is and what is not and what causes pain.  Many People who are living with Chronic Pain  or the pain no one is able to see are short changed in the way Doctors , Family members, Massage therapist , etc view them or even relate to them because they can not see it. Fibromyalgia is one such invisible pain causers.  Most people who are living with this are usually thought of as “nuts” or  told” its all in your head”. Yes I know times have changed however it still stays the same.  No one really knows what causes Fibro. There are many thoughts and Theories however  no one can really say . Some I have heard say it “Arthritis of the Muscle” Really thats just silly. I have heard some say it is Rheumatoid arthritis, hmmmm .. What -ever the cause it is pain real pain not perceived pain. There are studies that show that Massage , Reflexology, Movement such as exercise really help the person living with Fibro.  We do Share this with our Students in both the Massage program and in the Reflexology program.  If you know anyone who is living with Fibro. Please understand that they are in pain  Real Pain…..As Always it Is Your choice…
